“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man”, wrote Heraclitus. Indalecio’s experiences sailing and kitesurfing as a young boy come to life when creating his sculptures. From navigating strong winds and tides to observing the ocean’s varied habitats, Indalecio channels these foundational experiences into his artistic creations with passion and creativity.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2004, Indalecio moved to New York City with his family at the age of 7 where he attended The Buckley School in Manhattan. Raised a few blocks away from several museums where he spent time on weekends, Indalecio showed interest in — and a great talent for — drawing and painting as a young boy. After studying a semester at the Metropolitan Museum of Art at age 11 and an internship at El Museo del Barrio in 2019, Indalecio developed a profound interest in ancient and modern marble sculptures, with a particular interest in Leonardo and Calatrava who combined visual arts with science.
During the summers of 2021 to present, Indalecio joined Maestro Pablo Atchugarry as an intern in Lecco, Italy following a visit to his Museum, MACA, and workshop in Manantiales, Uruguay. In 2021, under Atchugarry’s direction and design, Indalecio collaborated on a wooden sculpture that was shown at Milan’s Palazzo Reale and included in the exhibition catalogue. The following year, this work was displayed at the Andrea Bocelli Palace.
“My sculptures vary based on the creative process that is used as well as the angles from which they are viewed. Heraclitus’ reflection of one changing and evolving as a person while our environment is also in perpetual change has always resonated with me. As raw and static stones are shaped and transformed into expressions of emotion, meaning, and movement, I too can feel my own skills growing and developing as I benefit from my mentor’s guidance.” Indalecio’s fascination for the process of sculpting also includes the selection of the marble as well as the logistics involved in cutting these massive, 20-foot-tall, marble blocks and transporting them from Carrara to the studio in Lecco.
Indalecio currently attends New York University, studying Civil Engineering with a minor in Finance. Previously attending Institut Le Rosey in Switzerland (Class of 2023). Given his outstanding academic record, the school allowed him to form the Sculpture Club which became operational in the Spring of 2022. Indalecio was responsible for teaching and mentoring other students.
In addition to his passion for math, physics, and engineering, Indalecio is an avid athlete and was captain of his school’s rugby and ski teams. While attending The Buckley School in Manhattan, he won The Iron Man Trophy two years in a row, an award given to the school’s best athlete. With strong ties to Argentina, Indalecio also represented his home country at La Scara, a Junior Ski World Cup, for three consecutive years. He began ski racing at FIS competitions in 2022.
“As I think of creating art and the tools of the future, my focus is to improve our shared communities by supporting a more peaceful, egalitarian and prosperous environment for all.”
